Artist Statement
Chaos can cause someone to feel overwhelmed and stressed because there are too many things happening at once. I wanted to convey this feeling through the idea of doing chores and having a "to do" list. A lot of times, when someone has a lot to do, they can become extremely overwhelmed as the tasks they must complete pile up, and a feeling of hopelessness can overcome them.
In my image, I used a lot of household items to create a messy and chaotic feeling. To convey the idea of tasks that never end, I used a to do list with a lot of errands relating to the objects in the image such as "return gifts" and "clean room" and "study for midterms". These tasks are represented through the many receipts, clothes, and the calendar with each day filled in. The days that have already passed are erased to show that even though the girl works at completing her errands, they seem to never end and they keep piling up even into the future. Each of the objects that represent an errand on the list are scattered around the image to add to the messy and crowded component of chaos. The background is messy and busy as well to show that the main character truly is surrounded by the chaos and the feeling of being overwhelmed that is created by the long and never ending list of tasks that she must complete.
