Artist Statement

In art, the idea of whether something is complete or not is not final. The completion of an art piece is determined by the person that is viewing the artwork. I used a complete artwork in this image that had been framed and marked completed by the artist. I then used two subjects and had them looking at the image in front of them that was considered complete. To each of the viewers, the image was not considered complete because there was something that they thought needed to be added to the image to improve it and to make it complete to their own standards.

I made the thought bubbles in this image seem fake and cartoon looking in order to emphasize the fact that they were not present in real life, but rather thoughts and part of the imagination of the subjects. Each individual is looking at the completed artwork and thinking of their own personal preference on how to improve the image and make it more complete. To these two individuals, the artwork is incomplete.
