Artist Statement
When thinking of new ideas, people generally go through more than one idea before finding their favorite. I wanted to portray the large amount of materials and tries that goes into creating one idea. I placed an "X" over the image in the crumpled up piece of paper to show that a lot of ideas go unused in the process of creating something new. I also added a large variety of materials such as scissors, glue, tape, a pencil sharpener, and cups of markers, pencils, and pen to exaggerate the amount of different materials that contribute to a final product.
I took this image from the point of view of the creator because it is not an image specific to any one person. I wanted anyone to be able to relate to this image and and the materials featured in it. I also used bright colors to mimic inspiration. Usually, when someone becomes inspired, they become energetic and excited about their idea. I used bright colors to represent the excitement and determination that the creator feels as he/she gets an idea.
